An Added Dimension

“Therefore He came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine, and there was a royal official whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. So Jesus said to him, ‘Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe.’ The royal official said to Him, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your son lives.’ The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, ‘Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.’ So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, ‘Your son lives’; and he himself believed and his whole household. This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.” John 4:46-54

“We pray best when we are most helpless.” -Charles Wesley
Not only do we pray best. We may even believe best under those circumstances. John 4:46-54 records the encounter of Jesus and the royal official whose child was near death. The royal official was obviously desperate, yet with great hope as he met Jesus. He may even have believed that Jesus would save his son. He likely expected that Jesus would go with him to his home and there heal his son. A natural expectation.

Though expecting a miracle, he thought it would occur in a most natural way. How else could he form his expectation? How do you form your expectations from God? Do you look for the most natural fulfillment of your hopes? It may be that God has some entirely different fulfillment planned for your need or desire.

Where God is involved in your life - expect an added dimension. After all, we have the resources of Jesus, declared by the Scriptures to be the Son of God - with power. Ours is the God of miracles! The royal official left Jesus that day, obeying His instruction. The following day he had the great, good news that his son was recovered from his illness, from the time of Jesus’ statement of the son’s healing. This is a record of fulfilled expectation. Here is the extra dimension. Record yours today.
