Be Holy, for I Am Holy

“As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.” Proverbs 27:19

Created in His Image
That was God’s plan, that mankind should reflect His character.

Restored through faith in Christ you reflect the very character of God to a lost and hungry world. The Lord spoke to the Israelites: “Be holy; for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44

Jesus renewed the command, Therefore you are to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt 5:48

Peter wrote, “But like the Holy One Who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am Holy.’” 1 Peter 15-16

God has always intended that you should walk in holiness just as He is holy. It follows naturally that your reflection of His holiness in a fallen world is also His purpose. “That you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world.” Philippians 2:15

The Bible contains one exhortation after another to live holy lives which bring glory to God because they reflect His character. How do you do this?
“Lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.” Ephesians 4:22-24
