In His Image

“Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26

Not long ago the late Dr. Francis Schaeffer spoke at a memorial service for unborn children killed through abortion. He eloquently defended their right to life. As he finished speaking, he arrived at the heart of the matter.

Dr. Schaeffer asked a small boy to come out of the crowd and sit on a stool where all could see him. Across his chest the child wore a banner which read, “created in his image.” It was a moving experience.

You are somebody. Your life counts because you have been created in the image of God. What does that mean?

Well, first of all understand, it is not talking about your physical appearance. God is spirit, and it was not until He became a man in the person of Jesus Christ that we can talk about physical appearance. His likeness that you bear is personhood. Personality is generally defined as a combination of intellect, emotion and will. This is what separates human beings from the rest of God’s creation.

God created Adam and Eve - and God created you ... all for the same purpose. You were made to have fellowship with Him. Through Jesus Christ, you can have that fellowship with your Creator God and know the satisfaction of total fulfillment.

Praise Him today - and enjoy His fellowship.

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” Romans 11:33
