The Church

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it.” Matthew 16:18

Christ said, “I will build my church.” It’s not just your church or my church - it’s His church, and He loves His church so much He died for it.

Question - What is a church?
By definition it is a called out body of baptized believers.

1. The church is the body of Christ. I Cor 12:12-27
▸ Christ is the head of the church. Eph 4:14-16
▸ The church is a unity. I Cor 12:12-13
▸ Each church member has a purpose. I Cor 12:14-20
▸ Church members are interdependent. I Cor 12:21-27

2. The church is the people of God. I Pet 2:9-10

3. The church is a family of believers. Gal 6:10; Eph 2:19

4. The church is the bride of Christ. Luke 5:34-35

5. The church is an expression of the kingdom of God.

6. The church is responsible for fulfilling God-given functions.
